Here's our little buddy Gavroche, showing us around his world in the 2012 movie musical.

I've put a couple of places from this section (l'Orme-Saint-Gervais and the Place de la Bastilee) on our Google map. If you look at the 1823 map and the 1830 map, you can see mention of the Elephant.

Here are pictures of the three successive sites that were at Place de la Bastille. First, the prison:
